The Polish public procurement legislation dates back to 1994 when the first Act on Public Procurement was adopted. The Act was amended a couple of times in the following years, mainly with the aim to clarify its rules and definitions, broaden the scope of application and make the procurement process more transparent. The adjustment of the Polish procurement provisions to the EU requirements was a major factor in the preparation of a new legislation. The new Public Procurement Law was adopted on 29 January 2004 and replaced the Act of 1994. In April 2006 and April 2007 the Public Procurement Law was largely amended in order to implement the provisions of the EU directives 2004/17 and 2004/18. The latest amendment to the Public Procurement Law was published in Dziennik Ustaw No. 171, item 1058 of the 23th September 2008. It entered into force on 24th of October 2008.
